Board Certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology…

Michael Kucenic, MD has a subspecialty in Dermatopathology, the study of skin disease at a microscopic level. It encompasses both the diagnosis of individual patients through the examination of skin biopsies, and the study of the causes, or pathogenesis of skin diseases at the cellular level.

Dermatologists recognize most skin diseases based on their appearance, distribution on the body and behavior with time. Occasionally, these criteria are not enough and a skin biopsy needs to be taken and examined under the microscope. This microscopic examination reveals the histology of the disease and clarifies the diagnosis.

One of the greatest complexities of dermatopathology is the high number of different skin diseases. There are an estimated 1500 different rashes and skin tumors, including variants, and it takes highly skilled physicians to diagnose and treat these conditions. The specialties of dermatology and dermatopathology are known to be among the most challenging in medicine.

At KMC Dermatology we are fortunate to have the expertise of Joseph Gadzia, MD, Board Certified in Dermatology and Michael Kucenic, MD, Board Certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. We screen our patients for signs of sun damage, precancerous skin lesions, unusual (atypical) moles, and skin cancer/melanoma.  Our patients benefit from complete dermatological services for both benign and cancerous skin lesions. Joseph Gadzia, MD and Michael Kucenic, MD have a wealth of experience performing many different types of medical and surgical procedures and Dr. Gadzia specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery.  All biopsies taken at KMC Dermatology stay on site and Michael Kucenic, MD (Board Certified in Dermatopathology) personally reads ands provides prompt and accurate results usually within 24 hours.
